What to See

Borgo Vecchio, the old part of the city, is built on a small promontory. It is surrounded by the sea and protected by defensive walls dating back to the 12th-13th century. Walking along them, you will come across, among other things, a trabocco. This is a traditional, wooden structure used for fishing. It’s a characteristic element of the landscape of this part of the Italian coast. Currently, some of them have been transformed into restaurants serving fish dishes.

One of the most important monuments in Termoli is the Svevo Castle, built in the 12th century. You also shouldn’t miss a visit to the Santa Maria Assunta Cathedral located on the main square, Piazza Duomo. The church is a mix of Romanesque and Gothic styles. An element that particularly catches the eye is the beautiful facade of the temple. Additionally, on the cathedral square, there are cafes and restaurants where you can eat while admiring the surrounding buildings.

The culmination of a visit to Termoli can be relaxation in the sea as there is a nice, sandy beach here. If you are a fish lover, it’s worth coming here on the last weekend of August when their annual festival (La Sagra del Pesce) takes place. Delicious dishes with fresh fish are then accompanied by music and artistic shows.
