Es Trenc – the most beautiful beach of Mallorca?
Is Es Trenc beach for you? If you love white, fine sand and shallow, crystal clear water, the answer is yes! It is a great place for longer sunbathing. The beach is relatively long. It will appeal to both those who like to walk along the seashore and those who do not like to be crowded among other sunbathers. Due to the fact that at its back there is a nature park, it remained undeveloped by hotel complexes. Low, green trees growing on the dunes only add to its charm.
However, you have to take into account that there is no typical beach infrastructure here. You will not rent sunbeds and umbrellas and you will not go on a motorboat or banana cruise. If, for example, you travel with children and you need an ice cream parlor at hand, Es Trenc will not be the best choice. However, for lovers of peace and quiet, it is a real paradise. In the second half of October (full sun, 28 degrees in the shade), there were really few sunbathers. In the bay, the sea is exceptionally calm, as smooth as a mirror.
Es Trenc – reaching it by public transport
Contrary to popular belief, it is possible to get to this beautiful beach by bus. We chose the option of reaching and returning from two different places to walk the entire length of the beach. I recommend getting to Colònia de Sant Jordi by bus number 517 (direction Santanyí), which starts from Campos. Get off at the „Primavera” stop. For example, buses 501, 508 (from the capital) or A51 (from the airport, but passing through the popular resort of El Arenal) go to Campos. All changes in this town take place at the La Verge stop. A hub for several buses, from which you can reach various parts of the island.
When you get off in Colònii de Sant Jordi, you will see salt pans. A place where salt is extracted from sea water. A short walk, straight all the way, takes you over to the 4-star Universal Hotel. It stands on a rock at the beginning of the beautiful cove of Estanys Beach. This is the starting point for our seaside walk. We have to go to the end of the beach. Then pass two smaller coves with the beaches of Peregons Grans and Peregons Petitis (I recommend these to go quickly, because algae accumulate on them). The next beach is Es Trenc, which is naturally divided into two parts. The whole thing is fabulous, but I personally think that the most beautiful fragment is a piece at half the length.
If you do not want to go back after sunbathing, it is worth going by the beach to the very end. There is a very small village of Ses Covetes, which we will pass in a few minutes on foot, and behind it another sandy beach of the same name. At its end is the village of Sa Ràpita. Coming down from the beach, we are only a few steps away from the Club Nàutic bus stop. There is bus line 508 that goes one way to Campos and the other way to Palma. Google does not show this walking route between Colònia de Sant Jordi and Sa Ràpita.
Tickets and timetables
The timetable can be checked on the website of the TIB carrier. It is a long-distance (intercity) carrier as opposed to operating locally, e.g. in Palma EMT. The TIB website is well structured and the data is updated on a regular basis. Please note that the summer timetable is valid until the end of October. When traveling after this date, you must take into account changes in the frequency of buses and modifications to their routes. The buses are very modern. For example, they have USB connections for charging phones, each has air conditioning, shelves for larger luggage, screens showing the route and the nearest stop. Remember to press the STOP button before the desired stop.
You always enter from the front entrance, next to the driver. To buy a ticket, just touch your debit / credit card to a special reader. Then, you should do the same when you leave (you can exit from any doors, there are readers at each door). You can buy up to 5 tickets on one card. This is cost effective as the price of the single ticket drops with each additional person. The driver also sells tickets, but it should be remembered that when paying in cash, we overpay almost twice. When I use TIB buses many times, I have never saw of anyone buying a ticket from the driver. It just doesn’t pay off. If you live in Palma, there are also ticket machines at the station where all lines start. I haven’t met them at other stops on the island.
Access by own car
If you are traveling by car, you can park in Ses Covetes and Colònia de Sant Jordi, at the two ends of Es Trenc Beach. Another option is to use the car park „Es Trenc Ses Salines” at the back of the beach. The cost is 7 euro for the whole day of parking by a passenger car. It is possible to pay by card. The last few hundred meters to the parking lot is a narrow dirt road. This causes a lot of problems in high season.
